Veneers are plates that are fixed on the teeth to give them aesthetics.

They can be made of ceramics or composite materials. Today, thanks to modern materials, veneers are installed not only on the front teeth.

Their use becomes possible even before the second premolar.

Vinyl records make teeth indistinguishable from real ones, as carefully selected according to the color of the patient’s teeth.

Using veneers, teeth can be restored within one day, even when they are severely destroyed.

You can install veneers on curved front teeth that have been treated and depulped after severe caries damage.

Most often, veneers are made for teeth falling into the smile zone, and therefore, maintaining contact points on the tooth plays an important role.

If the dentist sticks the material to the adjacent tooth, this will lead to a violation of the physiological mobility of the teeth and the uneven distribution of the load when chewing.

Are veneers made without turning your teeth

Installation of veneers made of composite material is carried out directly in the patient's oral cavity. The main advantage of such plates is that they are made in one visit to the dentist and there is no need to grind the teeth.

  • If composite veneers are produced in a laboratory, the tooth is pre-grinded. Then, a mold is taken from it, according to which the dental technician makes a plaster impression. In the future, the future veneer is modeled on it.
  • Ceramic or porcelain plates are made in the laboratory. Fixation is made on previously turned teeth of the patient.

When you don’t have to grind your teeth

  • Veneers without turning are rational when it is necessary to correct the shape of the tooth and there are no defects in the form of caries. If there is a defect, before installing the veneer, it is necessary to remove it, since as a result of tooth decay and discoloration, the defect will become noticeable and worsen the aesthetics.
  • If you need to add volume to the outer surface of the teeth.
  • To visually expand a tooth that is in the wrong position.
  • With strong abrasion of teeth.
  • If the cutting edges of the teeth are uneven.

If any parts of the tooth advocate future restoration, a minor tooth treatment is required for the correct shape of the veneer.

Lumineers

No turning of the teeth is required when they are restored using lumineers.

Unlike veneers, they are thinner, look like petals and are fixed to the teeth with a special glue.

Lumineers can be individual and standard, which are selected to the teeth, like false nails.

Individual records are made of porcelain in a dental laboratory.

There are certain indications for the use of lumineers:

  • The need for a slight discoloration of the teeth. Since the design is very thin, it is only possible to slightly change the color of the tooth.
  • The ability to mask diastema between the teeth.
  • If necessary, hide the enamel cracks of the teeth.
  • To correct chipping of the cutting edge of the tooth. At the cleavage site, the lumineer should have a slightly larger thickness.

The manufacturer of lumineers is the only laboratory in the world, which is located in Los Angeles. In this regard, their manufacture is quite lengthy, they are expensive, and in the territory of the Russian Federation they are not officially certified.

Disadvantages of installation without turning

  • Before installing the plate for its reliable fixation, a special processing of tooth enamel is carried out. The tooth surface is etched with acid, so that it changes irreversibly. Therefore, after removing the plate, walking, as before, will fail.
  • Not all defects can be eliminated with the help of a thin luminaire: it is often impossible to hide the color, change the shape of the tooth, unless the design is completely white and opaque.
  • Without preparation, the glued plate visually thickens the tooth, which affects esthetics.
  • In the absence of turning, it is impossible to create the correct transition of the plate in the tooth tissue, which will cause accumulation of soft plaque in the cervical area, gingival inflammation, caries formation, etc.

The disadvantages of lumineers include the high cost, insufficient reliability of the structures and, consequently, a shorter service life.

Reviews

According to reviews of people who installed veneers, they do not change color for a long time, do not fade and do not darken. Composite veneers darken over time and require replacement. They are more fragile and less reliable.

  • Seven years ago she installed veneers on her front teeth. For so many years they have not changed color and have not darkened. My plans include installing veneers on the lower teeth, as a stain appeared on one of them.
  • Ten years ago, a gap formed on the tooth as a result of caries. The dentist put the veneer from the composite, which still holds. Everything keeps normal, except that the plate has darkened and differs from other teeth.
  • For many years, a composite veneer stood on the upper tooth, which darkened and was noticeable against the background of real teeth. Recently I changed it to porcelain veneer, since it is indistinguishable from other teeth.
  • Five years ago I installed composite plates. I eat various foods, including solid foods. Nothing falls off and the color has not changed. The teeth became beautifully shaped.

Cost

Before answering the question: “How much do veneers cost?”, It is necessary to decide which plate will be installed: composite or ceramic.

If veneers without turning will be installed, the cost of the dentist will be lower than with turning the teeth. When installing veneers with turning, the price includes taking casts, making a temporary vinyl record.

The cost of lumineers is much higher than veneers and is within 700$ — 1500$ for a unit.

Tooth plates Price
Ceramic Veneers From 25 thousand rubles
Porcelain veneers From 15 thousand rubles
Zirconia Veneers From 16 thousand rubles
