Cermet on the front teeth

Restoring the front teeth requires a special approach to prosthetics, as they are in the visible zone.

If it is impossible to restore the damaged front tooth with modern filling materials or veneers, as well as in its absence, modern dentistry offers a solution to the problem of restoring the dentition using cermet.

The popularity of ceramic-metal dentures is due to the high aesthetics, sufficient strength and low cost of dental structures.

Such prostheses are made of metal and ceramics. Ceramic is applied to the metal frame, which gives strength to the dental structure.

Thanks to the ceramic coating, the artificial tooth is completely indistinguishable from the present.

The metal base of the crowns is made of gold, platinum, chromium, nickel, cobalt.

The most common is an alloy of nickel or cobalt with chromium, as these combinations have higher strength, better biocompatibility and a fairly affordable cost.

If the patient has enough funds for prosthetics, then the best solution is to install crowns on the front teeth, based on an alloy of gold with platinum.

Ceramic-metal structures based on gold-palladium alloy are more durable and many times more expensive.

Advantages

Crowns made of cermet have several advantages:

  • High esthetics. Quality ceramic-metal crowns on the front teeth are almost impossible to distinguish from natural teeth.
  • Strength and durability. Thanks to the frame made of metal, cermets are able to withstand high loads that do not cause cracks, chips and other damage to the dental structure.
  • Life time cermet crowns is at least 15 years, subject to oral hygiene.
  • The optimal cost of dentures.
  • The ability to maintain its original color and shine for a long time.
  • Highly resistant to various foods.
  • Do not rub off during chewing.
  • They are easy to care for.

disadvantages

  • Tooth removal, which, in most cases, is a must.
  • When installing metal-ceramic crowns, teeth are turned over, during which up to 2 mm of hard tissues on each side are removed from the tooth surface. Quite often, a pulp burn occurs, leading to its death and the formation of an inflammatory process. As a result, removal of the crown and treatment of the tooth with repeated prosthetics is required.
  • Possibility of an allergy to a metal base.

Indications

  • The presence of chips, cracks in the teeth.
  • With advanced caries, when restoration of the tooth is required.
  • Strong wear of enamel.
  • Restoration of the dentition, in the absence of one or more teeth.

When install

Single ceramic-metal crowns can be installed in the following cases:

  • If the root of the tooth is saved.
  • On the implants.

If the tooth root is saved

First, the doctor treats the root, after which the crown of the tooth is partially restored on it, followed by fixation of the artificial crown.

The restoration of the crown of the tooth can be carried out in two ways:

  1. With the help of a pin, on the basis of which the crown part of the tooth is restored, which is subsequently grinded under the stump to securely fix the ceramic-metal crown.
  2. Using a stump tab made in a laboratory. The root part of the tab is fixed in the root canal, and the visible part is modeled under the stump, on which a metal-ceramic crown is fixed.

For prosthetics using cermets, pins and inlays made of metal are used.

On implants

Prosthetics of the front teeth can be performed on implants.

If one or more teeth are missing in the oral cavity, then there is no need to prepare adjacent teeth.

An excellent solution is implantation followed by fixation of crowns.

As one of the ways to restore the front teeth - bridge prosthetics.

Installation issues

  • The presence of cyanosis of the gingival margin. This is an aesthetic flaw that can occur immediately or some time after the prosthetics. The reason is the metal base of the crown.
  • Since the crowns on the front teeth are metal-ceramic, they do not have transparency, which makes them noticeable against other teeth. If a metal-ceramic bridge is installed on from canine to canine, then this problem will not matter, because all visible teeth will be the same.

Preparation for prosthetics

  1. At the first stage, an examination of the oral cavity and dental treatment.
  2. In the presence of seals, the quality of their installation is checked, in case of unsatisfactory condition, the channels are cleaned and sealed again.
  3. Toothpulpation is performed, which is mandatory for the installation of ceramic-metal prostheses on the front teeth.
  4. If the tooth is destroyed, then the question of installing a pin or stump tab is decided.

Installation process

  1. The teeth are turned with the formation of a ledge, on which the crown will rest in the future.
  2. Removing casts from the jaws. The cast is sent to the dental laboratory for the manufacture of ceramic-metal construction.
  3. During the manufacture of crowns, temporary dentures are fixed on the patient’s turned teeth, which are necessary to protect the exposed tissues of the teeth and restore aesthetics.
  4. When the crown is ready, but not covered with glaze, it is tried on, during which adjustments are made to its shape and the color of the future tooth is selected using a special set of plates.
  5. After making changes and choosing a color, the design is covered with glaze.
  6. Fixation of the crown is carried out using dental cement.

Cost

The main distinguishing aspect of cermet on the front teeth is the price.

The cost of the crowns is influenced by the quality of the material from which the dental crown will be made, the qualifications of the dentist and dental technician, as well as the status and price policy of the clinic.

In some cases, a reduction in the cost of dental prosthetics is possible.

For example: in the manufacture of a bridge structure it can be combined. The crowns of the front teeth can be made of cermet, and the crown can be made of a more affordable material.

The cost of a crown having a frame made of platinum and gold, or palladium and gold is higher than that of nickel-chromium or cobalt-chromium alloys and will average 15,000 rubles.

Reviews

Patient feedback on the results of prosthetics with cermet can be not only positive, but also negative.

Much depends on the quality of work performed by the dentist and the dental technician.

Problems most often arise with poorly prepared preparation of the oral cavity for prosthetics and with defects in the manufacture of the prosthesis.

In order for the results of the prosthetics to leave only pleasant emotions, it is necessary to contact competent specialists with a good reputation.

  • Six years ago, I had metal ceramics installed on my front tooth. During the first 3-4 years, the tooth was not noticeable against the background of the real ones. But now the difference is visible. Apparently, my teeth became darker and yellowish.
  • My front teeth began to decay very early. Doctors tried to restore them with fillings and lining. In the end, I had to install crowns. The choice was made in favor of cermets. Since the teeth were almost completely destroyed, metal pins were installed, which were covered with fillings, and crowns were placed on top of them. I have been going with metal ceramics for four years. Everything suits me, the teeth and gums have their original color.
  • Three years ago, after a tooth injury, they installed a cermet on a cutter. More recently, the pin holding the crown has tilted and a gap has formed between the gum and the crown. I had to redo everything all over again.
