Even the most modern methods of dental prosthetics and implantation require a certain time for the manufacture of the prosthesis.

The manufacturing time for the design can be from two days to several weeks.

The state of lack of teeth limits the usual way of life of a person, causes discomfort and aesthetic unattractiveness.

If temporary dentures are not used at the time of manufacture of dentures for permanent use, then as a result the absence of teeth can lead to a change in the condition of the bone tissue of the jaw, malocclusion, and infection of the gums as a result of trauma to hard food.

To avoid all these unpleasant consequences, you must temporary prosthetics.

Temporary dental designs can solve both aesthetic and functional problems.

Tasks

Temporary prostheses allow you to solve some problems:

  • Hide defects in the dentition.
  • Able to hide the unattractive appearance of the tooth after turning.
  • Perform the functions of missing teeth. Provide food with familiar foods.

Useful features

  • Gum protection for damage, due to which the healing process of the gum tissue is faster.
  • A temporary denture protects the honed tooth from infection and inflammation.
  • Reduction of time for prosthetics.

Advantages and disadvantages

A temporary denture for people who have lost their teeth provides the following benefits:

  • The presence of a complete set of teeth until the time of manufacture of the denture for constant wear.
  • Provides quick recovery of chewing, diction and a varied diet.
  • Helps maintain bone volume.
  • Provides aesthetics of smiles and natural facial expressions.
  • Allows you to get used to the future removable design.

Unfortunately, a temporary prosthesis, despite all its advantages, costs about the same as a permanent one, so the patient must be prepared for the additional costs.

Temporary dentures, the price of which is about the same as permanent ones, are a disadvantage of temporary dentures.

When install

Temporary dental structures can be installed in the following cases:

  • After tooth extraction.
  • After turning the teeth, at the request of the client, temporary dentures can be installed.
  • When replacing an old prosthesis with a new one, it can be used as a temporary structure, which will reduce the cost of prosthetics.

Manufacture

If the tooth extraction operation is planned, then the preparation of temporary structures is carried out in advance.

  • First, a cast is made, after which the tooth is removed on the prepared model and the amount of the mucous membrane that will be lost as a result of the operation is determined.
  • Based on the data obtained by the orthopedist, a wax model and a temporary dental structure are manufactured.
  • On the appointed day of the operation, the tooth is removed and after the bleeding is stopped, a temporary prosthesis is installed.

This method is suitable for both fixed prosthetics and removable ones.

When removing a tooth outside the planned order, it is performed:

  • Impression immediately after tooth extraction.
  • On the same day, a temporary dental structure is manufactured and installed.

In this way, a temporary removable denture can be installed.

The installation of temporary crowns can be done after turning the teeth.

  • Casting after grinding a tooth.
  • Making a crown. The design can be made on the same day.
  • The fixation of the crown is made on temporary cement, which is easily removed before installing a permanent denture.

Materials

Aesthetic and durable materials are used that perfectly match the color of real teeth.

These are composite materials and various plastics.

The service life of such materials is from several months to 2 to 3 years.

Clinical case

A 54-year-old patient went to the clinic due to the restoration of a missing tooth.

The examination showed the impossibility of implantation and prosthetics at this stage, in connection with periodontal disease and malocclusion.

During the inspection were found: incorrect position of the front tooth and severe periodontitis. Atrophic changes in bone tissue were detected at the site of the missing tooth.

Based on the results, a treatment plan was drawn up:

  • To solve the aesthetic problem and prevent the position of adjacent teeth from changing, temporary dental structures were made.
  • Comprehensive treatment before implantation.
  • Treatment by a periodontist.
  • Bite correction.

How much does a temporary denture cost

A temporary prosthesis is a good alternative to feel confident during the manufacture of a permanent structure.

However, it should be noted that the cost of temporary structures is approximately the same as permanent prostheses.

In this regard, it is necessary to be prepared for the additional costs of dental prosthetics.
