Swelling after dental implants
Swelling after dental implants - This is a natural reaction of the body to damage to soft tissues and the introduction of a foreign body.
As a rule, the tumor is localized in the area of the installed implant.
Edema is formed as a result of involvement in the process of the immune response.
The size of the edema depends on the individual characteristics of the body, as well as on the degree of tissue trauma during implant placement.
- Usually, a tumor after dental implantation appears within two to three hours after surgery and grows by the third day.
- In the absence of complications in the postoperative period, swelling occurs on the fifth - seventh day.
- Starting from the fourth day after implantation, the dynamics of the tumor is a determining factor.
- If puffiness begins to subside, then the postoperative period proceeds normally.
In case of swelling, you should immediately consult a doctor!
How to behave in the first days of the postoperative period
After the operation is carried out for a day and a half, it is necessary to apply cold to the place of the installed implant.
This is especially necessary if two or more implants were installed, and a sinus lift operation was performed.
- It can be either a bubble or an ice pack, or any container wrapped in a clean towel. In extreme cases, even frozen foods will do.
- Cold must be applied every 20-30 minutes and kept for twenty minutes.
- The effect is worth the effort, because as a result, puffiness will disappear much faster and will not cause significant inconvenience.
- To prevent the formation of an inflammatory process in a wound, it is necessary to treat it with a special dental paste prescribed by a doctor.
- The substances contained in such a paste reduce inflammation, accelerate regeneration processes and remove the feeling of discomfort in the oral cavity.
- During the week after the operation, you need to sleep on a high pillow, which will improve blood outflow, and thereby will reduce edema.
- You need to eat liquid and semi-liquid food, which should not be hot or hot.
When to see a doctor
The following points are the reason for contacting a doctor (see photo):
- The growth of edema at the site of tooth implantation.
- With prolonged persistent puffiness, if other symptoms join, for example, hyperemia, blueness.
- If the temperature rises, pain continues, there are bloody or purulent discharge from the wound.
Care
- After eating, the oral cavity should be rinsed with special solutions of antiseptics.
- Treat joints with adhesive paste.
- Teeth located near the surgical field must be treated with cotton swabs dipped in a solution of hydrogen peroxide (3%).
- Caring for the rest of the teeth as usual.
- They help reduce puffiness and speed up the healing of decoctions of calendula and chamomile. These plants have a bactericidal, anti-inflammatory and regenerative effect. It is possible to rinse them only a day after surgery.
