Denture cleaning
In order for dentures to last longer, to fully fulfill their function, they need proper care.
If the prosthesis is not cleaned, then microbes will start to multiply on the surface of the structure, which will provoke inflammatory diseases of the oral mucosa.
Regular cleaning of dental structures will reduce the risk of developing diseases of the digestive system.
Denture cleaning as well as teeth should be produced at least twice a day.
During dental hygiene, it is also necessary to clean the tongue from plaque, because pathogenic bacteria accumulate on it, causing plaque on the gums and teeth.
Most often, microorganisms multiply:
- In the area of contact of the prosthesis with the gum.
- On the surface of dentures.
- In the pits of incisors and fangs.
- On the surface of the chewing teeth and tongue.
Types of cleaning
- Using a special brush with paste. The movements of the bristles should be sweeping in the direction from the gum to the tooth edge. More thoroughly, it is necessary to clean the gum contact with the denture.
- If veneers or crowns are present in the oral cavity, an irrigator is recommended. It will remove plaque and food particles from hard to reach places.
- Using antiseptic solutions. Cleansing a denture using a disinfectant solution will destroy bacterial plaque.
- Professional cleaning of the removable structure allows you to remove deposits from hard to reach places.
How to clean
Cleaning dentures has its own characteristics:
- Cleaning must be carried out using a special brush with soft bristles.
- The prosthesis should be cleaned at least twice a day and after each meal.
- When cleaning, care must be taken not to drop the structure, which can lead to the complete unsuitability of the prosthesis.
Stages of Care
- Thorough cleaning of the inner and outer surfaces of the prosthesis with a brush with paste. The use of toothpaste with abrasive particles is not recommended, since this can lead to a violation of the integrity of the base and artificial teeth.
- Rinsing the prosthesis under running water.
- Construction disinfection. The prosthesis is placed in a container with a disinfectant solution. To prepare such a solution, special cleaning tablets are used. The design is placed in the solution for 5 to 10 minutes. During this time, bacterial deposits and food debris are effectively removed from the prosthesis.
Ultrasonic cleaning
No matter how well the denture is cleaned with a brush, plaque still remains on its surface.
Ultrasonic cleaning of dentures, which is carried out in a dental clinic, will complement mechanical cleaning.
Cleansing fixed prostheses
Bridge structures and crowns must be cleaned in front of the mirror.
Important areas for cleansing are the internal surface of artificial teeth and interdental spaces.
- Structures must be cleaned with a nylon brush, sweeping movements from the gums to the chewing surface or to the cutting edge of the teeth. The brush must be placed at an angle of 45 ° to the point of contact between the gums and the prosthesis.
- For the lower part of the structure, you can use a brush - brush with movements forward - backward. To improve the cleaning ability, a small amount of toothpaste is applied to the brush.
- To polish the surface of the facet and artificial crown, like velvet for cleaning shoes, use dental floss with paste applied to it.
- After cleaning, it is necessary to thoroughly rinse the oral cavity with water, which will remove food debris, bacteria that remained on the surface of the prosthesis after cleaning.
- Special rinses not only have a refreshing effect on the oral cavity, but also prevent inflammation. Do not forget to change mouthwashes every 10 days, as bacterial resistance may develop as a result of addiction.
- The use of irrigators is also justified. But it should be remembered that they are an addition and in no case replace a toothbrush and floss.
Reviews
- I have been using removable dentures for several years. I clean it by all the rules. I soak prostheses at night in Korega disinfectant solution. In the morning, the prostheses are clean, like new.
- I have been using a bridge for five years now. You have to clean after each meal, as plaque remains on the teeth. First I clean the lower part of the prosthesis with a brush, then I brush my teeth. I rinse my mouth with a special rinse. During the day I feel a pleasant freshness in my mouth.
- I use an acrylic prosthesis. You have to clean in the morning and before bedtime, as well as after eating. To clean the structure I use a special brush and toothpaste. Then I rinse everything thoroughly and put it in a fittent solution. Everything is perfectly cleaned and the metal parts of the structure do not rust.
- I have been wearing a nylon prosthesis for three years now. I clean the prosthesis, on the advice of the dentist, first with a brush with soft bristles, and then put it in a disinfectant designed for nylon structures. It cleans well, but every six months you have to give the prosthesis to the laboratory for cleaning with ultrasound.
